Mark Sandberg - 2006-09-13Excellent Purchased this has 5 years ago - is still like new and has been used often. Rear of hat is designed like a fireman's hat - a bit longer to keep the rain off your neck. I love this hat and just bought another one for my father's 60th birthday!

Mulldog - 2007-03-05great fitting, rugged lid Hat fits great w/ the adjustable velcro strap inside. Bought it for kayaking in the N-East (RI). Gets pretty snotty here in the spring and fall. Haven't had the opportunity to put it to the test but the gore-tex is solid..May be hot in the summer...we'll see. Heading to the FL Keys for some fishing in a few weeks....i'll try it in the baking sun there & see how th ventilation is

John Stagaman - 2005-11-08Wortj every penny--great for rain and sun I picked up my sombrero for a Grand Canyon rafting trip a couple years ago and it's been with me ever since. It's a great hat in rain (you can put a jacket hood over it and the flaps keep the hood off you face), does just as well no the hot sun, and when wet can catch enough air in the brim to inflate like a flying saucer, amusing everyone you're with. The last part may not sound fun, but is sure was fun for the rest of the raft.

MaryJo - 2009-07-20No more wet hair. Was so tired of trying to keep a hood up or maneuver an umbrella in the wind and rain. The Seattle Sombrero keeps me dry and the velcro on the sides gives me a bit of a "cowgirl" look which is fun. The craftmanship is very nice.

Michael Conti - 2005-12-03Works well in snow too! I got my first hat while living in Portland, Oregon. I have also found it works pretty well in the winters of Colorado during snow storms. It does nicely in terms of sheltering the face from falling and drifting snow. I generally wear a light wool cap underneath for added warmth, especially during tea breaks amongst the trees.

Henry - 2008-08-20Great Hat! It's definitely my favorite hat. On rainy days it kept me dry. On hot sunny days, I felt it kept me cooler. I fish with it on and use it even when I play tennis. My only minor disappointment is the Khaki color seemed to have a slight greenish tint.

2006-01-23Pretty Darn Perfect This hat is lightweight, waterproof, windproof, way easy to pack, just plain super functional. Yea, it is pricey, but it is worth it. Pretty perfect outdoor hat. It is a little funny looking so buy it for function not fashion, you will not be disappointed.

Robert Dunlavey - 2009-06-01I couldn't live without it! I've owned one of these for several years, and recently lost it. I immediately ordered another, and was pleasantly surprised to find out how much they have improved it! The stiffer brim is a huge improvement. I take it everywhere!

2007-01-03what a way to get out of the rain In Arkansas the men wear bill caps and when it rains the red necks get wet. I took a chance and ordered the Sumbrero Hat to go with the oilskin duster. What a hit. Now he can work on the boat and not get water down his back. Don't tell him, but I think he really looks handsome in this great hat.

Rachel - 2007-09-05Great The Seattle Sombrero Hat is perfect for working outdoors in areas where it rains a lot. It definitely keeps the rain off of your head and since the back is a little bit longer it stops the rain on top of the hat from sliding down your back. It is a great hat and should definitely be the top choice for outdoor activities.

He is a high school football coach and this hat was a blessing for him to continue to coach and be in the sun with protection. Not only does it keep the rain out, it looks great. When I wore it to work for the first time, I got comments about how cute it looks. I love this hat!

Wolfgang Gunther - 2006-05-05Couldn't be without it I bought a black Seattle Sombrero ten years ago for a trip to Australia. Loved it and fitted right in with the locals. Then I got a blue & black SS that looked a bit less severe. That went with me travelling world-wide. The rim is just right to keep rain drops from my glasses. Great for small camera photography in the rain. And it disappeared, somewhere in the Caribbean. Couldn't be without it, bought another blue/black one (different shade of blue), and we just booked a second trip to Australia

2007-11-11Great Hat I love the hat. I took it on a trip sea kayaking in Croatia. It worked great. I have also used it hiking around our home in Germany. Great rainy day hat!

Ziga Tretjak - 2006-11-12A wonder hat Bought my first Seattle Sombrero Hat 10 years ago and wore it out to the last. Even in Texas there are weeks to use it daily. It is a great and warm shield in inclement weather, even a pour down just does not reach you and the dark rim works protective wonders when the sun returns. Ideal for travel as it always stays in shape Just got another one to last for years.

Maureen - 2008-04-27Great hat! This is a new hat for me, but I have tested it in rain and snow on the sidelines of a few soccer matches. It kept my face dry which is a huge plus since I wear glasses. The adjustable fit is great-especially in high winds. It did keep my head warm and dry. I look forward to many years of use. it seems well made of good materials.

I really loved the one I've had for 5 years - it stands up to the wettest, drippiest weather around the Pacific NW, so I thought it would be perfect for my brother who likes to bird watch in rain forest climates. It gives him great visibility, and no more drips down the back of his neck like other hats. He loves it and never travels without it.

What they don't tell you is that the brim has this thin, super light, rubber/foam, whatever, that will not only keep out every bit of rain, but also will keep you hat afloat on water! How cool is that! The other day we had a wild and strange downpour here in Ohio in the first few days of March, and I was hiking and did get caught up in the heavy rain, I had my Seattle Sombrero Hat on, and NO PROBLEMS, NATTA, NONE! Not only is this hat waterproof, but it has an adjustable band to customize the fit, velcro tabs to hold the side-flaps in place (Aussie look), and the chin strap with cord lock will keep the head-gear in place in the strongest of gales. Chris D - 2009-08-28Awesome All Climate Hat Awesome hat that is flexible to weather conditions. Hiking a 14 teener from 70's at the base to 30's at the top, this hat was all I needed. Throw in some rain and the brim comes down to keep water off your face and neck. Flexible and easy to pack and it comes back to form. Great travel campanion and multi-climate hat!

Dawn Gordon - 2008-05-13very pleased with this hat! I do love this hat! I would wear it here, I would wear it there, I would wear in anywhere! But seriously, I have had it just 2 weeks and it kept me dry while out for a lunchtime walk in the pouring rain, and the chin strap kept in on my head on a blustery sunny day. My husband borrowed it for a day of fly fishing, and now he is just trying to decide on a colour to buy one for himself.

Marty Goodman - 2010-03-08A Truly Outstanding Technical Hat I've been using this particular make and model of hat for the last 10 or more years. Both in the wilderness and (in basic solid black) on the streets of NY City and San Francisco. This is not merely a hat. It's a piece of finely-crafted technical gear, that one can rely on. I've worn these in the Sierra Nevada, in the desert canyons of Baja, at remote hot springs, and at one of the Yankess vs Boston Red Sox playoff games at old Yankee Stadium. Keeps one cool. Keeps on dry. VERY rugged. Very functional. Pricey? Yes... very. But worth every penny.

M. Deese - 2006-09-18GREAT HEADWEAR I purchased this hat for use on duty as I am a K9 Deputy Sheriff and I frequently stand out in the rain on car accidents. Since I received the hat, I have used it several times in heavy downpours on I95 and it has worked GREAT!. The fit is snug, the brim withstands a heavy rain and keeps the rain off your face (similar to a boonie hat, but this one does not get soaked and cave in), and most important is that it is breathable. The hat also comes in many different colors and I was able to choose one to exactly match my uniform. I am real happy with the hat and would highly recommend it. The price was the best I could find online also. The first wreck I worked in the pouring raiin, I was glad I spent the $48. Trust me.

James Jones - 2008-12-13functional, not fashionable I wouldn't backpack without it. Handles all but the most driving rain without using a hood, making it easier to both hear and avoid overheating. Also does a good job of keeping rain off glasses.Keeps my head warm to about 20 degrees

John in KY - 2006-03-26Great hat! Having lost my boonie hat from not-so-sunny Southeast Asia a long time ago, I've always tried to find something to match it. The sombrero actually provides more protection from the rain because it's got a larger brim than the jungle boonie hat I was issued. I bought an XL but should probably switch to an L because the band is adjustable. I tried on an L at a local store and it fits fine. You should be able to adjust the band to accomodate and even larger than a 7 5/8ths, which is my size. Beats a hood because it keeps the rain out of your eyes and off your face.

You can have them with you constantly, on, or around your neck, and they fold easily so can put them in a pack or purse. Don't stop making them, They should give them out at SEATAC! The one that he had previously was basically falling apart he used it so much over the course of about 14 years. He asked for one thing for Christmas and that was a NEW Seattle Sombrero so thats what he got and he still didn't retire the 'old' hat. Definately worth the money and then some!!!!

Rock - 2007-12-22Stay absolutely dry. Being in law enforcement, we generally do not get to choose not to be out in inclement weather. This hat will keep your head and neck dry in the worst Oregon coast storms. The velcro adjustment strap inside ensures perfect fit and keeps the hat on your head even in strong winds. I would recommend this hat to anyone who plans to be in any sort rain or snow storms.

Gus - 2010-04-08Best for cool rainy climates I'm sure this is a great hat for rainy, cooler climates. I live in a tropical area and this hat didn't have enough air circulation for this are. I suppose the name "seattle sombrero" should have clued me in. Nice hat, just not good for tropical. I'll keep it should I travel to a rainy area.

2006-01-27worn it almost every day I work outside and this hat is great. No wet head. No rivets digging into the side of my head like some hats I've bought. Really nice brim size with especially nice slope in the back to keep the rain running off my head and onto the ground instead of off my head and down my back! And the tie sinches up real nice in the back to keep the hat on even in the wind. I'm going to buy one for my partner who also works outside now that I've test flown it and found it to be excellent.

Mike Weathersby - 2006-05-01I finally broke down and bought one. Great hat.. I should have purchased it sooner! I thought that I would be a little techno geeky with it but we just returned from a "weekend" trip and I may have sold 3-4 more.. Kept the rain and sun off of me very well.

2009-12-12Husband loves the hat!!! We got one of these last Christmas for my husband and for his dad to wear fishing. My husband LOVES this hat and wears it in the Pacific NW rain to hike and hunt in. It definitely kept the rain from running down his back. Our teen son saw how well it worked and so his sister is giving him one for Christmas this year. The "complaints" about the hat being too warm aren't a negative for these guys in our wet weather. Buy one!!! You will love it!!!

Elsie Brussels - 2008-09-22great hat second hat owned. one for my son and one for my husband. Perfect for all kinds of sporting weather: white water rafting, fishing, hiking, etc.

Scott J - 2006-10-02Excellent ! Puchased the hat for hiking in bad weather and ended up using it for the first time in a golf tournament in the rain. Very comfortable and I stayed dry the whole time.
